At Jacobian, we understand the immense pressure radiologists face every day - the cognitive load, the demand for rapid turnaround times, and the uncompromising need for accuracy and consistency in every report.
The surging demand for diagnostic imaging, combined with a persistent shortage of radiologists, has created a challenge that can only be met through meaningful innovation.
Technology has long been a driving force in radiology - from imaging advancements to data operations and reporting workflows. Today, artificial intelligence is playing an increasingly vital role in enabling radiologists to deliver better outcomes for patients. Generative AI, in particular, is beginning to deliver on its promise and realize its true potential in real-world clinical workflows.
However, one major hurdle remains: while the potential of Gen AI in diagnostic reporting is clear, making that potential real within everyday practice is still difficult.
Too often, AI tools function as workflow augmentations – patchily integrated add-ons that add friction into critical processes.
As one of our partners, Dr. Jim Busch of Tennessee’s PrimeImaging, notes: “It is one more thing the radiologist has to either look at or dismiss, which is more time consuming ultimately.”
This disruption - and the risk it introduces - is the primary reason AI has yet to reach its full potential in radiology. It affects not just clinicians, but also healthcare executives, IT teams, and ultimately, the patients who depend on timely diagnoses.
Innovation Without Disruption
Jacobian was founded to solve this problem.
Formed from the coming together of Fluency for Imaging (FFI) and Smart Reporting – and led by the founders of both - Jacobian represents a fusion of proven workflow reliability and pioneering AI innovation. FFI, known for its award-winning speech recognition technology (Best in KLAS – Speech Recognition: Front-End Imaging for five of the last six years), has long been a cornerstone in daily reporting for thousands of radiologists worldwide.
Smart Reporting, on the other hand, brings deep expertise in medical knowledge modeling, standardized reporting, and advanced AI innovation.
After two years of close collaboration (the results of which you can see at this year’s RSNA conference), the full integration of these two teams under the Jacobian banner forms a company purpose-built to deliver innovation without disruption.
A Unified Vision
Jacobian is well-funded and dedicated exclusively to diagnostic imaging reporting. Our mission is to empower radiologists, not interrupt them. By combining the trusted, scalable infrastructure of FFI with the deep medical intelligence and Gen AI capabilities of Smart Reporting, Jacobian is uniquely positioned to remove the barriers that have slowed AI adoption in radiology.
In uniting the strengths of both teams, Jacobian is seizing a rare opportunity: to help radiologists, healthcare systems, and patients move beyond the disruption barrier and toward a future where AI enables faster, safer, and more consistent diagnostic reporting.
