The transition checklist: the real difference between a platform and a product

Every market transition triggers the same response: a wave of new entrants, longer feature lists and overconfident claims about AI. If you're evaluating a reporting platform right now, the hard part is not finding options, but telling which ones will still be standing (and improving) three years in.

A checklist to help home in on the signal despite the noise:

  1. Is it validated or just claimed?
Marketing taglines like "built for radiologists" or "#1 in AI" come easy. Ask for the independent, third-party proof, not a vendor's own narrative. Jacobian Fluency for Imaging is 5x #1 Best in KLAS - Speech Recognition: Front-End Imaging (2022 to 2026). That's real ranking by real clients for real at-scale use in everyday practice.
  2. Are you buying a platform or a product?
A point solution adds a feature. An end-to-end platform runs the reporting workflow itself - impressions, priors, synthesis, nudges, guidance peer learning, critical results - as one connected system, not a collection of add-ons stapled together. Ask a vendor to show you where their AI actually lives in the report to uncover if it’s merely a widget.
  3. Does it fit your environment or do you have to fit into theirs?
Every IT stack is different. Deployment flexibility means the platform adapts to your infrastructure and not the other way around. Jacobian Fluency for Imaging offers true flexibility: cloud, on-premise, hybrid – a multi-instance, multi-tenant, always-on system with built-in downtime contingency. Check if what you are considering is truly an at-scale platform that can flex to your environment and let you define your own deployment.
  4. How much of this is proven and for how long?
Pilots are easy. Ask how many clients are fully deployed at scale, not "in progress" or "select sites." Jacobian's platform is behind 150+ successful competitive-platform migrations, 10,000+ radiologist users, 250+ clients globally and 80M+ exams per year — real production metrics. New name. Deep roots.
  5. Innovation and reliability — do you actually have both?
This is the question most practices under-ask. A vendor chasing every AI headline can leave your reporting infrastructure brittle. A vendor focused solely on reliability stops improving. Organizations that come out ahead pressure-test for both in the same platform and treat over-indexing on either one as a red flag, not a selling point.

And don't stop asking after the 30- 60- 90-day plan. Go-live is the beginning, not the finish line. Ask who owns your account after onboarding ends, how they are supporting your radiologists’ individual preferences and what ongoing optimization actually looks like a year in —  not just who answers the ticket queue.

Battle tested. Not beta tested. The basics are not basic to us.
